Analysis Setup

Extract the FrontISTR code, move to the directory for this example, and check that the following files required for the analysis

File name Type Role
hecmw_ctrl.dat Overall Control Data
hinge.cnt Analysis Control Data
hinge.msh Mesh data
hecmw_part_ctrl.dat Partitioning control data Control data used when hecmw_part1 divides the mesh data into domains

are present.

tar xvf FrontISTR.tar.gz
cd FrontISTR/tutorial/02_elastic_hinge_parallel
ls

Output:

hecmw_ctrl.dat hecmw_part_ctrl.dat hinge.cnt hinge.msh

Perform a stress analysis in which the displacement of the constrained surfaces is restrained and a concentrated load is applied to the load surface.

Analysis Procedure

To run FrontISTR with MPI, first divide the mesh data hinge.msh into four domains.

hecmw_part1

New files named hinge_4.x and part.inp are generated.

ls

Output:

hecmw_part.log hinge.cnt hinge_4.0 hinge_4.2 part.inp

Next, run the FrontISTR executable fistr1 using MPI.

mpirun -np 4 fistr1 -t 1

(Run with 4 MPI processes and 1 OpenMP thread)

*.res.* files are result data containing the FrontISTR analysis results for each MPI node. They can be displayed with REVOCAP_PrePost and similar tools.

*_vis_* files are visualization data and can be displayed with general-purpose visualization software. In this example, the data is output in VTK format, so use ParaView or similar software to display it.
