About FrontISTR

FrontISTR is open-source large-scale parallel finite element method (FEM) structural analysis software. It provides analysis capabilities required in industrial and academic practice, including nonlinear deformation and stress analysis involving material nonlinearity, large deformation, and contact, as well as modal analysis, frequency response analysis, and heat conduction analysis. FrontISTR is distributed under the MIT License.

FrontISTR can be used across a wide range of computing environments, from trial analyses on a laptop to large-scale parallel computations on PC clusters and supercomputers. See Features and Supported Analyses for a list of supported analysis capabilities.

Development and Operation

FrontISTR is continuously developed and operated by the general incorporated association FrontISTR Commons, a development community comprising universities, research institutions, and companies. Source code publication, improvement, and distribution are carried out through this community. See the official website for information about community activities and how to participate.

GitLab is the primary development platform. Issues and merge requests, including bug reports, improvement proposals, and code contributions, are also accepted there.

Availability on Supercomputers

FrontISTR is preinstalled on HPCI shared computing resources, including Fugaku, providing environments for large-scale parallel computation.
